I was given the task to design a unit that would cohesively integrate technology, ISTE standards, and our grade level subject standards into one. This is not an easy task but teachers face this reality everyday. I decided to create my unit on a Kindergarten lesson on pollution and how we can help the earth.

Over the course of several weeks I developed my plan. Many factors were taken into consideration: students age, background knowledge, resources available, and time. Could I create a unit that would teach students how we can help the earth while making it fun and engaging?

I created a unit based on kindergarten standards. Here is a link to the complete unit. This may not be copied or published without permission. You may however teach the unit.

Students will discover how they can help the earth. We will explore the effects humans have on their environment. Students will solve a problem through a student service learning project focused on how they can help their playground be a better place for everyone.

This unit encompasses many standards but more importantly it teaches students the importance of service work. They learn to collaborate, persevere, problem solve, and think critically.

I enjoyed creating this unit and I hope that you will be able to adapt and use it in your classroom.
